Short Biography

I am senior reseacher in the database laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.

I first had my master in computer science in 1993 in the University of Burgundy. After several years in the computer science center of the social security, I moved to Lausanne where I got my PhD in 2001 on multiple representations in spatial databases.

After my PhD I worked as a consultant at Umanis SARL where I was in charge of database modeling.

Since 2002, I've been a senior researcher at the Database Laboratory at EPFL. I take part in the GeoPKDD European Project on moving objects.

At EPFL, I'm teaching classes on databases, Java and C programming.

I am currently studying to obtain a Master's Degree in Behaviour, Evolution and Conservation at the (University of Lausanne)

Research Interests in computer science

- Multiple representations

- Conceptual modeling in Databases and Data warehouses
- Spatio-temporal databases and data warehouses
- Ontologies

My main research interest is in Multiple representations in Databases and data warehouses. I have proposed a new approach for modeling multiple representations in spatial databases. This approach called Stamping has been applied successfully during the european project MurMur. Actually I'm working on multiple representations of moving objects in the context of the GeoPKDD project and on multiple representations of ontologies.

More generally I'm interested in conceptual modeling for spatial databases. I've participated in the specifications of the MADS conceptual model for spatio-temporal databases.

More recently I have studied the differencies/similarities between ontologies and databases.
